American Chestnut Description Artists Pete and Diane Bretz give new life to antiquate American chestnut wood originally used in the construction of homes and barns. Each piece of wood is carefully selected to bring out the unique qualities of the chestnut grain. Special molds are created to duplicate the grain of the chestnut wood. Each piece is then skillfully hand-painted to give the look and feel of painted wood. The illusion is so well executed that it is hard to tell that they are not the wood carved originals, which results in whimsical characters that are irresistible.
